To be or not to be guided by destiny.

William Shakespeare once said, “It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.” There are indeed things I can agree and disagree in that line.

When I was younger, I used to believe that we create our destiny and it is entirely our own choices to make. For instance, it is my own choice to choose to walk the path I am walking now, but if we were to think from another perspective, how do we really know if that is our entirely our choice? What if destiny guides us to make that choice? What if everything I have done has already been predetermined to happen?

My ideas come from this French guy called Jean Dela Fontaine who quoted, “A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it.” So it actually could mean that we are trying to avoid destiny by making our choices and we end up making our own choices that destiny had already written for us.

Why am I being extra philosophical in my post today? Well, I was wondering why destiny or even God has to play tricks on innocent people who had already suffered a lot previously. Or even destiny is being so cruel to a child who lost his mom when he was barely four, and recently lost his dad just 5 years after. What future holds for that little boy now? He has not made any choices, and yet destiny puts him in a whole new world or cruelty. And much more drama will come after. Who says that we are masters of our destiny? Our destiny is connected with a red thread with others around us and we cannot entirely choose our destiny. We make choices we believe it is right, walk on the path of determination, walk on the path to a bright future, and along the way, another person’s destiny will also cross paths with us. It can be an obstacle, it can be a discouragement or it can also be a tragic incident that brings us to the inevitable.

Ichihara Yuko from xxxholic said ,”この世には偶然なんてない、あるのは必然だけ。”
What that means is, ” In this world, there is nothing such as coincidence, all that exists is the inevitable.” yes, I personally believe that as well. I believe that things we meet everyday in life is already meant to be that way. It is inescapable to run away from destiny, and on the other hand, destiny is created by our choice that destiny has already guided us to that point. But could destiny be changed? It certainly can change, because of the decision we made but who knows if it is destiny in works to change our decision again? Hmm..

This is really abstract, isn’t it? Haha. To make a long story short, I believe that we are masters of our choices but destiny is the puppet master to guide us to think that way and brings us to different conclusions based upon the path we choose. Just like a simulation game, we made decisions and different decisions brings to different endings. But if we only await for a good destiny to come, we are being too lazy. We have to make an effort in this real world, and then destiny will pave a way to success.

The more I write, the more confusing it gets, so if you are still unsure, just forget it.

Destiny asked me to end this post with another quote by Orisen Swett Marden.

“Our destiny changes with our thought; we shall become what we wish to become, do what we wish to do, when our habitual thought corresponds with our desire.”
